Product Description

Brief introduction

Lactase is an enzyme found in the small intestine of mammals that catalyzes the breakdown of lactose (milk sugar) into the simple sugars glucose and galactose, and in most mammals, It’s activity after the young is weaned and can consume other foods.

Mutations in the gene that encodes lactase may result in inherited lactase deficiency, which manifests as lactose intolerance, or the inability to digest lactose. Lactose that is not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract undergoes fermentation by bacteria, resulting in the production of gas and intestinal distress.

It is the inability to digest lactose past childhood because not enough lactase is produced. Primary lactose-intolerance is very common worldwide; 70 percent of humans are lactose intolerant after childhood. This graph shows the percentage of people in each country that have difficulty digesting lactose past childhood. Related Reading  : Can Lactase Reduce Lactose Intolerance?
